The 2nd annual Community Builders Awards will be taking place in May 2024, celebrating the extraordinary individuals and organizations making significant contributions to our city.

Arts

The Arts award recognizes an individual or group that has significantly strengthened the artistic community. Their work has amplified the arts and contributed to the community’s growth and vitality.

Economic Development

The Economic Development award is presented to an individual or group that has made a substantial contribution to the economic prosperity of the community. Their efforts may include providing leadership by chairing and directing committees, facilitating the establishment of new businesses or implementing critical infrastructure projects.

Education

The Education award honours a student, educator, administrator or education advocate who has significantly contributed to the advancement of education in the community. This may include an outstanding teacher who has profoundly influenced the lives of their students, an administrator who has pioneered the establishment of a specialized program or an advocate whose efforts have driven lasting positive change within our local schools.

Environment

The Environment award recognizes an individual or group for their meaningful and positive contributions to the environment, both man-made and natural. Their efforts may include private initiatives, such as designing an innovative energy-efficient home, or public projects, such as leading a re-greening initiative. 

Recipients share the common trait of demonstrating what is achievable in reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainable development within the community.

Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame award celebrates an individual or group whose visionary efforts have had a profound and lasting impact on the community. Their significant contributions have enriched the fabric of the community, whether through the creation of transformative programs, initiatives or institutions (like festivals, parks or community centres).

Health Care

The Health Care Award honours an individual or group that has made an exceptional and meaningful contribution to the health and well-being of the community. This award celebrates those whose dedication and impact extend beyond the ordinary, whether through providing outstanding care as a health care professional, demonstrating compassion and commitment in their practice or leading transformative initiatives that address critical health needs. 

Recipients may include individuals who have gone above and beyond their professional responsibilities, those who have championed innovative health care solutions, or leaders whose vision and efforts have established essential programs or services that significantly enhance the quality of life within the community.

Legacy

The Legacy award is a posthumous honour, celebrating the memory of an individual whose life and contributions have left a lasting and meaningful impact on their community, profession or cause. 

This award recognizes their exceptional achievements, visionary leadership and enduring legacy, acknowledging the transformative difference they made. By commemorating their profound contributions through either a living legacy or a legacy created through their passing, the award serves as a tribute to their enduring spirit, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and continue the work of creating positive change.

Sports and Recreation

The Sports and Recreation award is presented to an individual or group whose outstanding efforts have greatly enhanced the strength, vitality and spirit of sports and recreation within the community. Their impact could include inspiring others through exceptional coaching, fostering a passion for sports by establishing initiatives such as leagues or recreational programs or providing dedicated mentorship to teams or individuals.

Recipients of this award embody the values of perseverance, teamwork and sportsmanship, serving as role models who lead by example.

Unsung Hero

The Unsung Hero award celebrates an individual or group whose tireless work and/or volunteer efforts in our community seek to improve the lives of others. 

The recipient of this award exemplifies the spirit of generosity, compassion and civic responsibility, consistently going above and beyond to create a positive impact in our community, both now and for the future.

Young Leader

The Young Leader award recognizes an individual or group, currently under 25 years of age, who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the community in one or more of the Community Builders categories. 

Recipients of this award stand out for their commitment to improving the world around them, whether through volunteering, advocacy, organizing events or leading innovative projects that address pressing community needs. They embody the qualities of leadership, compassion and resilience, inspiring their peers and setting an example for others to follow.

FAQs

What are the eligibility requirements?
To be eligible for nomination, the candidate must be a resident of North Bay for the past 5 years. For the Young Leader award specifically, the nominee must be under 25 years old.

*Please note: Village Media staff and sitting politicians are not eligible for nomination.

When is the nomination deadline?
The nomination deadline for 2024 is Thursday, April 4.

When will the winners be announced?
The winners and their nominators will be notified in April and the winners will be announced publicly beginning May 27th.

How do I submit my letters of support for a nomination?
