Chancellor of Nipissing University Paul Cook is a proven leader in the community, demonstrating honesty, integrity and the ability to create positive change.

Not only has Cook served our community as the Chief of Police as part of his 34-year-long policing career, but he is a dedicated volunteer who has served on numerous boards and committees throughout his life.

Cook’s passions span across multiple areas. He has served on the North Bay Court Security Committee, the Nipissing Transition House Board and the Domestic Violence Coordinating Committee of Nipissing.

Cook is also an advocate for youth sports, spending countless hours coaching soccer, hockey and ringette teams, as well as serving on the North Bay Youth Soccer Board for over 30 years and as a member of the board for Coach4Food (now called My Team Cares), helping youth sports teams to support local food banks.

Additionally, Cook has contributed to large-scale sporting events as chair of the 2015 Ontario Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games Committee and sponsorship chair for the 2013-2014 World Ringette Championships Committee.

All of these accomplishments and contributions make Cook the ideal recipient for this year’s Community Builders Award in the Hall of Fame category.

His generosity, devotion and work ethic can be vouched for by those he has worked closely with.

“Paul went out of his way to make me feel welcome as Nipissing University’s new president,” said Kevin Wamsley, president and vice-chancellor of Nipissing University. “He has been a true supporter of our students, our athletes, faculty and staff members.”

“I can’t imagine an individual who has demonstrated more commitment to the City of North Bay than Paul Cook,” Wamsley added.

Marianne Berube, past chair of the Nipissing Board of Governors, also spoke highly of Cook. “I have known and worked with Paul for the past 42 years. I can’t think of anyone more truly deserving of this award for all he has done for our community, youth support and education.”

Cook was thrilled to receive the Hall of Fame award.

“This means a lot. I’ve always been committed to our community so it’s nice to be recognized," Cook said when he was told the news.

This award goes to an individual or group with big ideas that has had a significant impact on the community.

Congratulations, Paul!
