On Saturday, April 23, Diocesan President Cathy McKinney presented a $910 cheque to Elaine Summers, representative of the Catholic Charities Food Bank.
The presentation took place during the historic 100th Annual Sault Ste. Marie Diocesan Convention held from April 22nd to 24th in North Bay, with over 100 members of the Catholic Women's League present.
“At each annual convention members of the host region identify an organization that truly embodies the objects of the League, " said Cathy McKinney, Diocesan President "The Sault Ste. Marie Diocesan Council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is celebrating the first 100 years at the annual diocesan convention in beautiful North Bay. Members of the organizing committee chose to donate monies, collected from delegates to the Catholic Charities Food Bank located at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption which is a volunteer-based organization providing free food services to clients in a dignified manner.”
“These monies will go towards fulfilling a great need in the City of North Bay," added Elaine Summers, of the Catholic Charities Food Bank. "Since the 1970s the Catholic Charities Food Bank has ensured that every resident of North Bay and area who is in need of food is given a hand up.”
2022 marks the 102nd year of the Sault Ste. Marie Diocesan Council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada, and the 100th anniversary of their annual meeting, this year in North Bay.
The organization includes 29 councils from as far west as Sault Ste. Marie and as far east as Callander.
