From farm to Queen's Park: John Vanthof's fight for the north

From dairy farmer to MPP, Vanthof remains committed to improving highways, healthcare, and education for Timiskaming-Cochrane.

John Vanthof was first elected as Member of Provincial Parliament in 2011. Prior to that, he was a dairy farmer for 35 years. He was president of the Temiskaming Federation of Agriculture when the province wanted to bring Toronto’s garbage to Timiskaming. The owner of the property launched a lawsuit against him for his advocacy efforts. This lawsuit was the catalyst that made him run for MPP. As MPP, he has constantly advocated to improve services for the North-from highway safety, to housing, to access to healthcare. The battle to keep our families safe on the highway continues today with his efforts on the Northern Plan for Safer Highways.

“In the North we have always had to work harder and smarter to get the services that our taxes pay for.” - John Vanthof

He is hoping to continue that work for the people of Timiskaming-Cochrane.

John Vanthof's priorities for Timiskaming-Cochrane

  • Highway Safety: Continue advocating for increased safety on our highways by implementing recommendations from the Northern Plan for Safer Highways, developed with input from the trucking industry. This begins with having the MTO take over all driver testing in Ontario.

  • Health Care: Secure proper funding for hospitals and home care providers to ensure all residents of Timiskaming-Cochrane receive the services they need.

  • Education: Ensure proper funding so that all students have the necessary support to thrive.

  • Worker & Business Support: Protect workers and businesses in our communities in the event of a tariff war with the United States.

  • Special Needs Services: Expand services for individuals with autism and special needs to help retain families in our communities.

"It has been a privilege and an honour to represent you at Queen’s Park, and I hope to continue serving you."

Please vote NDP – John Vanthof on February 27th.

Advanced polls are open from February 20th to February 22nd.
