Unwanted person call leads to impaired charges by OPP

The driver was also charged with driving while under suspension and operating a motor vehicle without insurance

WEST NIPISSING, Ont. — Police charged a driver with impaired driving offences after responding to an unwanted person call.

On December 16, 2024, at approximately midnight, the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to an unwanted person at a business on Highway 17, West Nipissing.

The individual had driven away before police arrived but was later located by police and arrested for impaired driving. The driver was then transported back to the OPP detachment for further testing.

Shawn Mills, 43, from West Nipissing was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on February 6, 2025.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
