NBPS: Man charged after disturbance, lockdown at retirement home

Police say the accused entered a retirement complex on Fraser Street in North Bay and was acting aggressively, causing staff and residents to fear for their safety

The North Bay Police Service arrested a 36-year-old man for assault, causing a disturbance and mischief charges.

The accused in this incident is Dereck Letourneau, male, age 36, of North Bay, who is charged with:

  • One count of assault
  • One count of causing a disturbance
  • One count of mischief under $5,000
  • One count of failure to comply with release order

At approximately 6:50 p.m. on December 16, 2024, police say the accused in this incident entered a retirement complex on Fraser Street in North Bay and was acting aggressively, causing staff and residents to fear for their safety. As a result, the complex was placed on lockdown. NBPS says the accused
damaged property at the complex and attempted to assault staff and residents. At approximately 7 p.m., police arrested the accused at the scene.

The accused in this incident was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
