OPP in Elliot Lake say a tenant at a retirement home had cash stolen from their room in October and so used technology to solve the crime.

On November 2 the tenant put their plan into action by leaving their room for breakfast, but this time activated a surveillance camera.

"A retirement home employee was caught entering the tenant's room unauthorized and going through drawers and a wallet," says an OPP release. "The tenant reported the matter to the retirement home administrative director and the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were later called."

The employee was arrested yesterday.

Jamie-Lynn Joncas, 42. from Elliot Lake, is charged with:

  • Break, enter a place with intent to commit an indictable offence
  • Criminal breach of trust

Joncas is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on December 12.
