Police have begun an investigation involving cruelty to animals in the Verner area.
On March 8, Nipissing West OPP began the investigation which involved three dead Great Pyrenees dogs, which had been shot and abandoned in a ditch off Deer Lake Road, Verner.
The breed is a large, thickly coated, and immensely powerful working dog bred to deter sheep-stealing wolves and other predators on snowy mountaintops.
Officers are seeking the public's assistance in identifying those involved in the destruction and abandoning of these animals.
If anyone has any information regarding this investigation, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
