CHARGES LAID IN RELATION TO FIRE

On the 11th of Dec. during the afternoon a man attended a residence within the city and visited the occupant. He left after a period of time and attended the attached garage. The home occupant later checked the garage and saw that it was on fire and observed the man engulfed in flames exiting the structure. He rolled in the snow to extinguish himself. The home owner called 911 and then the man entered the home and commenced to ransack the kitchen.

The homeowner then escaped the residence. Officers of the North Bay Police Service arrived as well as the North Bay Fire Department. This same man then attended a nearby government facility and attempted to steal a vehicle. Unsuccessful he then flagged down a passing motorist and attempted to steal this vehicle as well as another one. Eventually this man was subdued and held for Police. He was then brought to the North Bay General Hospital for treatment. He suffered 2nd degree burns, cuts and bruises. He remains in hospital under guard.
The garage has been secured for the Ontario Fire Marshall.
Ryan NEIL 26 years old of Rodney Dr. in North Bay is being charged with Arson, Mischief and Trafficking in Cocaine. The investigation is ongoing by Cst. Scott McFarlane of the North Bay Police Service and further charges are pending.

ICE CAUTION
The North Bay Police Service would like to caution the general public concerning the very thin ice conditions that are presently in effect. Our Service has recently received calls of people being on the ice on Callander Bay. We would like to remind the public that once someone goes through the
ice it becomes very difficult to rescue that person in a timely fashion.
Parents should be warning their children about these dangers.
