Five teens cause $50,000 damage to Elliot Lake arena

OPP have arrested another youth in relation to the break-in and mischief at the Elliot Lake Centennial Arena.

On September 27 at 7 a.m. police were called to the arena on Spruce Avenue when contractors noticed extensive damage inside.

"A group of youths caused over $50,000 in damages," says an OPP release.

Between October 1 and  3 police arrested and charged four 17-year-olds from Elliot Lake who could not be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

On November 8 at approximately 3:45 p.m., the East Algoma OPP Crime Unit arrested a fifth individual related to the break and enter at the Centennial Arena who also cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act

A 15-year-old from Elliot Lake is charged with:

  • Two counts of Break, enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence 
  • Mischief over $5000

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on December 12.
