Fake plate brings real charges

Nipissing West OPP stopped a vehicle for displaying an unauthorized licence plate in Noelville

Another one of those stories that make you say, "What were they thinking."

A motorist thought it was a good idea to put their own fake plate on a vehicle instead of the official Ontario one.

Nipissing West OPP stopped the vehicle for displaying an unauthorized licence plate in Noelville, west of Sturgeon Falls.

The vehicle failed to yield the right of way when stopped by police. The driver was unable to provide a driver’s licence or any other vehicle documents.

A 51-year-old person from Noelville is charged with six related driving offences.

According to the Highway Traffic Act, the owner is "guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine of not less than $100 and not more than $1,000 or to imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or to both, and in addition the person's licence or permit may be suspended for not more than six months."

The OPP reminds motorists to have authorized plates and current documents with the vehicle.
