Broomstick assault on grandparent leads to arrest

A family member was throwing household items around, swinging a broomstick at a parent and a grandparent, and threatening to punch both victims in the face

A family dispute in Elliot Lake turned violent yesterday resulting in one person being arrested by East Algoma OPP.

During the early afternoon police were called to a home to speak to the parent and were told that a younger family member was throwing household items around, swinging a broomstick at the parent and a grandparent, and threatening to punch both victims in the face. 

Prior to police arrival, the younger family member left the residence and was arrested later in the afternoon.

Dean Baker, 27, from Elliot Lake is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Baker is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 10.
