Backyard tent fire leads to arson and B&E charges for local man

North Bay police have arrested a man for arson

North Bay Police arrested and charged a 36-year-old man with arson and break and enter Saturday after a backyard tent was set ablaze.

At 11:30 p.m. on August 13, officers got a call from North Bay Fire and Emergency Services that someone set an unoccupied tent on fire in the backyard of a residence on Shea Street, just off the bypass

The arsonist fled prior to police arrival, but was arrested on O’Brien Street a short time later.

Police say the man had entered the victim’s home and a search revealed items of the victim’s property on the person arrested.

The victim and accused are not known to one another and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire, added police.

Allan Dalton Johnston, 36, of North Bay is charged with:

  • Break, enter a dwelling house to commit an indictable offence
  • Arson – damage to property

Johnston was released on an undertaking and is set to appear before the court on September 22.
