The Powassan Voodoos of the NOJHL have completed a major off-season trade with the Whitby Fury of the OJHL.

The Voodoos have sent goaltender Nate McDonald and the rights to American skilled forward Austin Ramirez for forwards Tiger McDonald and defenceman Alex Boudreau and cash, the Voodoos announced on Monday afternoon.

Nate McDonald was named the NOJHL MVP finishing on top of nearly every goaltending category in the 12-team league during the Voodoos 2016-17 championship season.

“We wish Nate very well, he is one of the classiest young men I have ever dealt with in hockey,” stated Chris Dawson, Voodoos GM and VP of Hockey Operations.

“We hope Whitby is the ideal spot for him to continue his development.”

The Voodoos GM credits newly appointed Associate GM Mike Mackley with coordinating the deal with the OJHL team.

In Tiger McDonald, the Voodoos receive a big 19-year-old forward who netted 18 goals and 39 points between the Fury and Pickering Panthers last year.

In Boudreau, the Voodoos net a 20-year-old defenceman who had 11 points in 44 games with the Fury last season and brings with him 115 games of OJHL experience with him to Powassan.

"We just added more experience to our championship team, and Tiger has ties to the north so we are excited to see what the season will hold with these two quality players joining our organization," said Dawson.

The Voodoos, who named Beau Moyer new head coach last week, will be back on the ice July 8th and 9th as they hold a summer prospects camp at the Allandale arena in Barrie.
