North Bay paddler Zaffia Laplante (second from front) and her Team Canada crew picked up a pair of silver medals in the C2 and C4 events at the Lake Placid International Regatta in Lake Placid, New York on the July 5th and 6th weekend.

Team Canada was edged out for Gold in both events by team USA.

“The Americans jumped on us from the start and we played catch up for most of the race but we came back hard and nearly beat them at the finish line – they are a strong crew and we (Canada) are going to have to work hard to beat them at Worlds next year,” said the Ecole Secondaire Catholique student, who was named to the team in mid June.

The Canadian Womens Canoe team included Jillian Perrone, Zaffia Laplante, Anne Sophie Lavoie-Parent, Jessica Macdonald and coach Hunter George and Tamas Buday.
