Former North Bay Midget AAA Trappers star Jeffry Jordan became a champion on Friday as he led the Elmira Sugar Kings to a GOJHL Jr. B Sutherland Cup championship.
The Sugar Kings took the title by virtue of a 4-1 win on Friday night over the London Nationals as they won the best-of-seven series four games to one over the London squad.
Jordan, who was the team captain, finished the playoffs with 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points in their long playoff run.
The Sugar Kings took a unique path to the championship title as they were actually eliminated in their conference semi-final series by the Listowel Cyclones, but the GOJHL itself chooses a fourth semi-finalist out of the three conference finalists, which gave the Elmira Sugar Kings a second life.
The Sugar Kings had a daunting task as they were up against the Caledonia Corvairs in the semi-finals but the Sugar Kings got a taste of sweet victory by knocking off the defending Sutherland Cup champs four games to two and punching their ticket to the final in the process.
It's the second straight year a North Bay area player hoisted the coveted Jr. B trophy, as Tait Seguin won the champoionship last season with the Caledonia Corvairs.
