Centennials make their return

The North Bay Centennials is once again the name of a North Bay hockey team.

The North Bay Centennials is once again the name of a North Bay hockey team.

The former name of the OHL team which relocated to Saginaw in 2002,  is being adopted by a North Bay Major Novice AA team which is traveling to Toronto to participate in the Toronto Cup on May 2nd to 4th.

"We'd like to thank the Battalion President Mike Griffin for allowing us to use the name and King Sportswear for making up the vintage jerseys," said Centennials head coach Marc Long.

Long, grew up wanting to be a North Bay Centennial and, in fact, played OHL hockey for the Sudbury Wolves and the Oshawa Generals.

"When news got out that we were using the Centennials name, my phone blew up with messages from former Centennials players I know and other North Bay hockey fans and parents," added Long.

The city of North Bay got a chance to embrace the Centennials name again back when the North Bay Battalion wore the black and gold colours in their game against Saginaw back in January.

The Centennials 2005 and 2006 players include:  Ben Rivet, Max Rivet, Mason Larochelle, Vaughn Thomson, Cam Sutherland, Kaedyn Long, Matt Carter, Ryley Wolfe, Caleb "Bubba" Shank, Caleb Dawson, Landon Boulet, Finley Gould, Simon Dube, Nolan Mason, Drew Duquette and coaches Marc Long, Eric Thomson and Shawn Shank.
