Stan Butler, Head Coach and General Manager of the North Bay Battalion was recently named as the Honourary Games Coach for the Special Olympics Ontario 2015 Provincial Winter Games, taking place in North Bay January 29th to February 1st.
“In reaching out to someone in the community who the Games Management Team felt would best serve as a great ambassador and role model, we are extremely pleased that Stan has agreed to fulfil this role,” commented Chief Paul Cook, North Bay Police Service and Games Chairperson.
Butler was flattered by the nomination.
“I was pleased to have been approached about participating in the Games as the Honourary Coach and look forward to lending my support to what will truly be an incredible sporting event right here in our city," said Butler.
Inducted into the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and recipient of the ‘Coach of the Year in Canada’, Butler has been involved with coaching at the Major Junior level for more than 19 years.
Butler also served as Head Coach for 2 years with the Canada’s World Junior Team and for 1 year with the Canada's Under 18 Team.
Special Olympics is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with an intellectual disability through active participation in sport.
The Games are being hosted by the North Bay Police Service, with the support and participation of numerous individuals, organizations and agencies throughout the community and beyond.
The Service is working in partnership with Special Olympics Ontario to organize and run the Games.
