A photo exhibit at the North Bay Museum is focusing on the development of Nipissing University.
Last year the Museum partnered with a group of third-year Nipissing University History students taking a Museum Studies course to put together the exhibit.
"This exhibition was created to celebrate Nipissing University as an institution and to outline the history of post-secondary education in North Bay," says a news release. "The student curators accessed the North Bay Museum and Nipissing University Library archives to research and select the photos on display."
The exhibit illustrates a variety of critical aspects of the university including post-secondary insurgence into the region, starting with the North Bay Normal School opening in the region in 1909. Nipissing University received its charter in 1992.
"This photo exhibition was created to celebrate Nipissing University as an institution and to outline the history of post-secondary education in North Bay," says a statement by student curators Casey Monkelbaan, Connor Sykes, Carly Sherlock, Nick Benson, and Brody Rogers:
"Today, Nipissing is highly regarded for its beautiful campus and high levels of student satisfaction. As a group of students, we wanted to showcase how proud we are as university students to attend Nipissing University, and to be active members of the North Bay community. We hope visitors of this exhibit can learn something about the history of post-secondary education in North Bay and the importance of Nipissing University in the North Bay community."
The photo exhibit will be on display until March 14. Visitors will have a chance to meet the exhibit curators and enjoy free admission during the downtown Gallery Hop Friday, February 28 from 7-9:30 p.m.
