Local McDonald’s franchisee Colin MacWhirter and his restaurant crew are thanking frontline healthcare workers by donating food.
What started as a simple gesture of thanks at the beginning of the pandemic has continued throughout the past two years with more than 600 Egg McMuffins and dozens of carafes worth nearly $4,000.
Colin and his father, Dan, have a long history of community involvement across their various restaurants including a 20-year toy drive for local charities, partnering with Children’s Aid and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Colin’s partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters includes a receipt redemption program allowing mentors to redeem 10 per cent of their order resulting in $500 donated last summer. In total throughout 2021, Colin and his team have donated over $20,000 including $1,300 in coupons, 600 Egg McMuffins and over 1000 cups of coffee.
