Pierre Dumas started his small business, Data Cabling Communications Limited, in 2006. Over the past couple decades, technology has changed significantly and the company has grown. But one thing that hasn't changed is the their approach to serving clients.
“It’s a personal, hands-on business,” says Pierre, who still operates at the tool level frequently, working alongside his 25 employees and meeting with clients face-to-face.
The services that DC Communications offers include telephone systems, security systems, camera systems, IT support, and cabling installs. They are well-established in Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas as a reliable communications and security company, for commercial, industrial, and residential services. This year, Pierre and his team are officially expanding their company to open a location in North Bay.
“In today’s society, it’s a requirement to secure both physical and digital assets,” says Pierre. He saw North Bay as an opportunity to more effectively serve their current territory, as they regularly have projects ranging from Sioux Lookout all the way to London— and often, even out of province.
Pierre and his team pride themselves on consistency in their performance, responding to their clients’ needs as quickly and effectively as possible. They are committed to completing tasks and projects within the expected timeline, providing customers with peace of mind, knowing that the job will get done right.
“Nobody wants to wait and wonder when the estimator’s going to get back to them, or when the job’s going to be scheduled. Or making multiple visits for a simple task,” says Pierre.
DC Communications regularly receives glowing feedback on this customer service approach. They are complimented on the professionalism, communication and friendliness of their team, from the initial consult to the on-site installation experience. That has always been the approach of the company’s Sault Ste. Marie location, and their core values.
In the Sault Ste. Marie area, DC Communications regularly donates to local organizations, including hospitals, sports teams, universities, and charities. Pierre believes in getting involved locally, identifying community needs and contributing whenever possible. He already has a special local connection to the city of North Bay— it’s where his wife is from, and where they first met.
Despite the DC Communications’ expansion, Pierre will continue working hands-on in the business he built. “It builds confidence in the team from the top down. They have confidence in the management side, knowing that the owner of the business still engages directly with the team,” he says.
Pierre looks forward to building their customer base and supporting his team members, as they grow their skills and take on bigger roles within the company. As an independent business, this expansion is a meaningful step forward, says Pierre. “Business has been personal to me from the beginning.”
