North Bay's Mike Yeo has found a new coaching opportunity with the Ottawa Senators.

The Ottawa Senators announced Yeo, along with Nolan Baumgartner have been named assistant coaches under new Senators head coach Travis Green.

Yeo and Baumgartner round out the remainder of Green’s coaching staff joining assistant coaches Daniel Alfredsson and Ben Sexton, goaltending coach Justin Peters, video coach Mike King, and Jacques Martin, senior advisor to the coaching staff.

“We’re pleased to welcome both Nolan and Mike as new members of the Senators organization. In addition to Daniel, Ben, Justin and Mike’s respective return, we’re confident that this coaching staff represents a strong blend of experience and one that will provide Travis with high-level support while they collectively lead our team going forward," Steve Staios, president of hockey operations and GM, stated in a release.

Yeo recently became available after being part of the successful Vancouver Canucks team that was edged in seven games by the Edmonton Oilers in the western conference semifinals. Yeo mutually parted ways as an assistant coach with the Canucks on May 29.

"Yeo brings a wealth of experience with 24 years of coaching experience between the AHL and NHL under his belt," the Senators release stated.

Most recently Yeo spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks. Before that Yeo had been an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins, winning the Stanley Cup in 2009, a head coach with the Minnesota Wild, an associate coach and subsequently head coach with the St. Louis Blues and an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers having worked with Claude Giroux from 2019-2022.

Travis Green, who was named the new Senators head coach on May 8, says he's excited to work with his new staff.

“I think it represents a great combination of knowledge, coaching experience, youthfulness and playing experience, all of which are integral components to a coaching staff’s success," Green stated.

"I firmly believe that we’ll be able to proactively collaborate as a group in the name of team success while establishing a winning culture.”
