Weather alert for North Bay

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for:

• North Bay -
• West Nipissing, Ont. 

Current details:

Winter storm bringing mixed precipitation to Northern Ontario.

A low pressure system from the Prairies will be tracking towards the Great Lakes tonight and Friday, then across Northeastern Ontario Saturday. Precipitation with this system is forecast to begin as snow, affecting areas north and northeast of Lake Superior this evening.

For Manitoulin Island to Sudbury and North Bay: the snow may become mixed with ice pellets before changing to freezing rain Friday. The freezing rain could persist for a few hours before changing to rain. A freezing rain warning may be required for some locales.

There is still some uncertainty in the track of the low, and thus precipitation types and amounts.

Environment Canada meteorologists are watching the development of this system closely and will issue further statements or alerts as needed.
