Fire investigation: OPP asks public to ID unknown persons

The Nipissing West OPP is seeking information on two unknown persons travelling in a rented 2023 white Hyundai who were dressed in red hoodies and red jogging pants and were observed at the property

WEST NIPISSING, Ont. — Police are seeking the public's assistance with an arson investigation.

On June 28, 2024, shortly after 7 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Nipissing Fire Service responded to a structure fire on Highway 17. The blaze occurred in an empty gas bar at 162 Front St. in Sturgeon Falls. 

No one was injured in the fire. On June 28, Frank Loeffen, fire chief with West Nipissing Fire and Emergency Services, said the fire was considered suspicious and the investigation had been turned over to the Ontario Provincial Police Crime Unit and the Fire Marshall's Office.

Two unknown persons were travelling in a rented 2023 white Hyundai, dressed in red hoodies and red jogging pants, had a fuel container, and were observed at the property. Officers are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the individuals involved in this investigation.
