Andrew Besseau recalls his first season of AA hockey, and his coaches name was Peter Goulet with the St. Lawrence Kings in the Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO).
Fast forward to 2023, and Besseau is working for Goulet as a goalie coach for the Powassan Voodoos. The 35-year-old, who lives in Muskoka, took on the position with the Voodoos in the summer of 2022.
“I thoroughly enjoy working with Peter, the hockey staff, and of course our goaltenders,” said Besseau.
Besseau, who has been coaching goalies off and on for the past decade, says his highlight was being selected in the U16 CJHL Draft by his hometown Smith Falls Bears.
He still plays the game but loves teaching goalies at the NOJHL level.
“I have a passion for others becoming their best through hard work, discipline and encouraging fun no matter the level,” said Besseau.
“I love of the sport and the position between the pipes.”
Voodoos returning goaltender Daniel Diracollo enjoyed working with Besseau last season.
"Andrew was a great addition to the team as our goalie coach," said Diracollo.
"He is someone I relied on heavily during the season to improve, mentor and consult on my game. He is very accessible to answer any of my questions. He’s had lots of experience playing and coaching at the junior level and I am extremely excited to continue learning from him this year."
Besseau and the Voodoos hit the ice for the start of main camp on Friday, August 25 at the Powassan Sportsplex.
