Rebounding from a two-goal deficit, the Powassan Voodoos came back to knock off the Timmins Rock 5-3 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Sunday afternoon match-up at McIntyre Arena.

It was a big win for a Voodoos squad that squandered a late 4-2 lead in Hearst Saturday night where they fell 5-4 in overtime.

Jack Kelly got the Rock on the board near the six-minute mark of the contest as he started a rush out of his own end, then moments later was there to slam in the rebound off a Tenzin Nyman blast in the Voodoos zone.

Tacking on another, Timmins clicked on a man advantage opportunity when Lucas Lowe fired a cross-crease feed over to former North Bay AAA Trapper Brant Romaniuk, who promptly pumped it past Powassan goaltender Austin Seibel at 12:03.

Moving to the middle stanza, the visitors got on the board while up a skater early, when Caden Dubreuil lifted in his 16th goal of the season, by raising it over the Rock’s Dryden Riley, with help from Eric Whitelaw and Jack Nolan.

Tying it up at 12:22, the Voodoos’ Anoushan Mungunthan generated an impressive dash up ice and while driving down the right wing, put a play in front that was inadvertently knocked in by the Rock defender, for his initial NOJHL tally.

Still knotted at 2-2 into the third period, Powassan took the lead when a persistent Cayden Kowal pressured a couple of chances before eventually stuffing one in while battling at the top of the crease.

Blasting in an equalizer during a five-on-three, Kelly cranked in his second of the day on a one-timer from the right side, off a Romaniuk set-up.

Answering back to retake the lead with under three minutes to play, the Voodoos capitalized on a turnover that led to Nolan finishing off a Caleb Dawson back pass in-close for the eventual difference maker.

Powassan then wrapped up the road result with a long-range empty netter off the stick of Kowal at 19:07 to secure the victory.
