In this new world of COVID-19, people are relying on virtual meetings to conduct business and stay informed while adhering to the rules of physical distancing.
North Bay City Council held its first electronic council meeting Tuesday night with councillors choosing to participate from their home or office.
Deputy Mayor Tanya Vrebosch said while there were a few minor glitches, technically the meeting went as well as could be expected.
“I think we could have had a lot more problems. Technology is always going to cause some little hiccups. But this was our first meeting and I think it went very well,” said Vreobsch.
“I think everybody was respectful. I think it is possible to do our council meetings going forward this way, as long as security stays the same. There has always been concerns about different formats that people are using for electronic meetings.”
Vrebosch said security is especially important should council have to go in-camera.
“If things keep going this way, I can foresee us doing this for as long as necessary during this COVID-19 situation.”sure measures are in place. IT has been working on this in case we ever have to go in camera for any item.”
It appears virtual city council meetings will be the norm for the time being.
