North Bay police have charged a 33-year-old man with causing a disturbance and assault at Chippewa Secondary School.

At 3:30 p.m. on September 22, officers were called to the high school after a report of an unwanted person on the property, which is across from a low-barrier homeless shelter on Chippewa St.

"The man was acting erratically and aggressively while attempting to gain entry to the property," says a news release. "Staff of the school had successfully prevented the entry."

Police found the intruder on the property, but as officers tried to de-escalate the situation, he tried to assault a police officer.

The man was placed under arrest. No weapons were used in the attempted assault and the victim did not sustain physical injuries as a result of the attempted assault say police.

Kenneth Armstrong, 33, of North Bay is charged with:

  • Causing a disturbance
  • Assault a peace officer
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

Armstrong was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
