From gut wrenching dramas to side splitting comedies the Gateway Theatre Guild has thrilled and delighted North Bay area audiences for 60 years.

“We have a primal urge to tell stories,” says veteran actress Kristin Shepherd during the theatre troupe’s Community Theatre Information night at Odyssey School Tuesday, where they launched the Guild's 2008-2009 season by unveiling their new look and logo.

“TV is great but I encourage others to take it (entertainment) out of the living room and tell it live.”

“TV and movies are great, but theatre is a level above and is more challenging ... and oh so entertaining,” she adds.

Guild President Greg Springall says not everyone has to be an actor to discover community theatre as there are hosts of jobs back stage from production management to wardrobe and make up, to set construction, as well as front of house rolls that people are required for.

Springall hopes that people who are curious about what it takes to put a live production together will join the guild and discover the power of live theatre and help keep the arts alive in the city.
