The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for FedNor, today announced a FedNor investment of just under $1.6 million to the City of North Bay and local and regional organizations.

“Canada’s New Government is working for the people of North Bay, the Nipissing–Timiskaming region and, indeed, all of Northern Ontario,” said Minister Clement. “By creating job opportunities for our young people, developing new businesses, encouraging tourism and promoting local agriculture we are getting things done for Northern Ontarians.”

The Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) known as the Nipissing East
Community Opportunities Corporation (NECO), will receive a total of $963,420 to support three important initiatives that benefit many regional partners. These include small business investment activities in the region; Youth Entrepreneurship; and the establishment of the Northern Ontario Agricultural & Food Pavilion at the 2007 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto.

The City of North Bay will benefit from an investment of $500,000 to complete the next phase of its waterfront development initiative, and a further FedNor contribution of $110,000 will go toward four new youth internships in the Nipissing–Timiskaming region.

“We are certainly grateful to the Minister for taking the time to visit North Bay and for FedNor’s tremendous contribution to this community and the surrounding area,” stated North Bay Mayor, Vic Fedeli. “These investments will pay significant dividends in enhancing the quality of life for the residents and businesses of Northern Ontario.”

By supporting Nipissing–Timiskaming communities and organizations through its programs and services, FedNor is opening doors and building futures for a prosperous Northern Ontario.
