North Bay police confirm they are investigating what they are calling 'a sudden death" at the North Bay Jail on Trout Lake Road September 22.

David Woolley, Corporate Communications Officer told BayToday that the person is a 38-year-old man.

The ongoing investigation is being run concurrently with an Ontario Coroner's investigation.

Ministry of the Solicitor General spokesman Andrew Morrison said, "The ministry can confirm that the police and paramedics were called to the North Bay Jail on Friday after an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell. The inmate was pronounced deceased at the facility. It is not appropriate for the ministry to comment further as the coroner and the ministry investigate the incident. Police may investigate if criminality is suspected.
