Periods of heavy snow today.

A winter storm over Iowa will move towards lower Michigan today. A broad area of precipitation is advancing across central Ontario.

Freezing rain..Freezing rain mixed at times with snow or ice pellets or rain will become intermittent within the next hour over Manitoulin Island. Isolated thunderstorms with periods of ice pellets or freezing rain heavy at times are possible over the Sault Ste Marie to Elliot Lake to Manitoulin Island areas during the next couple of hours. The precipitation is expected to taper off early this afternoon and then change over to wet snow heavy at times later today. Freezing rain is also affecting the Elliot Lake area but is expected to change over to snow or ice pellets shortly.

Snowfall..Snow ahead of the system will continue to be heavy at times during the day over the warned regions. Snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 centimetres are expected before ending this evening. Further south over an area extending from Sault Ste Marie to Elliot Lake snowfall amounts will be reduced with 10 to 15 centimetres expected by Saturday morning. Visibilities could also be reduced at times in local blowing snow.

Sudbury and North Bay area is likely to receive further amount of near 5 centimetres towards Saturday morning.

Motorists should plan accordingly as driving conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly today.

A winter storm over Iowa early this morning will move towards lower Michigan today. A broad area of precipitation is advancing into central Ontario.

..Freezing rain warning..The freezing rain is expected to begin early this morning and may at times be mixed with snow or ice pellets. Freezing rain will change to snow during the day.

Snowfall warning..Snow ahead of the system will begin this morning and become heavy at times during the day. Snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 centimetres are expected before ending this evening. Visibilities could also be reduced at times in local blowing snow.
