Seatbelt violation leads to drug charges

Police have arrested and charged two people with drug-related offences after a traffic stop in Sturgeon Falls.

On July 23 shortly after 2:30 a.m., Nipissing West OPP saw the passenger in a vehicle not wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle was stopped on Front Street, West Nipissing.

The driver was arrested for being a suspended driver and the passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

A search discovered cash and drugs suspected to be methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs.

Onofrio Di Pisa, 55, from West Nipissing, is charged with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Driving under licence of other jurisdiction while suspended in Ontario
  • Drive a vehicle with cannabis in open baggage

Nicole Rees, 40, from Sudbury, is charged with:

  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Passenger - fails to properly wear a seat belt

Both were held for Bail Court and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice today in North Bay.
