If you see a large number of paramedics, police officers and firefighters sporting pink nail polish it is for a very good reason and cause.
It's a new twist to the CIBC Run for the Cure fundraising event which will take place virtually on October 4.
Cody Belanger, the afternoon drive host at Kiss 100.5 in North Bay, came up with the idea.
"A guy like me at the grocery store sporting bright pink nails people cannot help but ask and as much as we are going to be talking about this in the community," said Belanger.
"I really feel it is the conversations person to person that will stick with a lot of people either to get them to participate or at the very least get the word of mouth going."
North Bay Police Chief Scott Tod likes the idea and put out a challenge to paramedics, the OPP and the North Bay Fire Department to get their nails painted pink and help raise money for the cause.
"I lost my mother when she was 85 years old and it started with breast cancer and she passed away as a result of cancer so this Run for the Cure has a deep meaning for me professionally but more importantly personally," said the Chief.
Derrick Desilets with the North Bay Fire Department says they are up for the pink nails challenge.
"It is for a great charity and one we have been involved with for a long time," he said.
Melanie Gainforth, the co-chair of the North Bay CIBC Run for the Cure, is excited about the new virtual event.
"The run will be virtual but we still want people to experience all the great parts of the run for the cure," she said.
"We want you to get together with your loved ones and your teammates, fundraise and participate."
In the 15 years of the event, she says they have raised more than $1.2 million through more than 6,000 participants.
Gainforth also likes the idea of having men get pretty in pink nail polish.
"It is great that they are keeping it fresh and it is something they can do on the job," she said.
"It is also going to bring awareness for them when they are out in the community because I'm quite certain people are going to ask them why their nails are pink."
