Rota Receives Prestigious Award

Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota is being recognized by the “Valle del Savuto Social Cultural Club” for his outstanding contribution to Italian-Canadian, and Calabro-Canadian life in Canada.

At a ceremony which will take place in Toronto on November 4, 2006, Mr. Rota will be awarded the “Targa di riconoscimento”, which is presented to distinguished citizens who have contributed greatly to the strengthening and amelioration of Calabro-Canadian and Calabrese relations and activities.

“I am honoured and humbled to be receiving such an award,” says Mr. Rota. “In my capacity as the Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, I have the privilege of representing constituents of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I truly believe that it is our diversity as Canadians that help make this the best country in the world.”

Guests at the gala event will include members of the Canadian and Italian business and cultural communities, as well as politicians from the Savuto Valley of Calabria, Italy.

“I am proud of my Italian heritage, and to be recognized by such a well established association is something very special, and something that I will always be grateful for,” says Mr. Rota.

Previous recipients of the award include former Supreme Court of Canada Justice Frank Iacobucci, the Registrar of the College of Physicians of Ontario, Dr. Rocco Gerace, and former Minister of Labour and Housing, the Hon. Joe Fontana.
