Rock and mineral event at Callander Museum

This year’s theme is Rocks Up Close and last year’s event drew over 120 people over the course of two days

The Callander Bay Heritage Museum, Nipissing Rock and Mineral Club, and the Crystal Cave have combined to “rock” into 2020 with their second annual rock and mineral activity day at the museum before everyone returns to their school and work routines.

This year’s theme is Rocks Up Close. Last year’s event drew over 120 people over the course of two days.

This Friday and Saturday from 10.am to 4 p.m. will see activities featuring multiple tables with a range of “mysterious” minerals, “fantastic” fossils and “captivating”

There is an art show featuring the macro photography of Julia Breckenridge. These pieces, which are printed on sheet metal, are close-up images of rocks and minerals. Breckenridge, along with her husband John, run the rock and mineral museum the “Crystal Cave” in South River and will be bringing with them technology highlights such as augmented reality and virtual reality to create an immersive “rockin” experience.

The photography of Breckenridge will remain on display until Friday, January 24.

The event will cost $7 per participant, adults accompanying youth are free. If a participant has a family/grandparents membership with the museum then they may bring up to three people for free.
