The flags at City Hall have been lowered to half-mast. Additionally, the portrait of the Queen at Memorial Gardens will be draped with a black cloth as a symbol of mourning and will remain as such for the 10-day period of mourning. Following that period, a portrait of Canada's new head of state, King Charles III, will eventually take the place of honour inhabited by his mother, the late Queen, for decades.
