Portion of Algonquin closing for flowerbed maintenance Thursday

Workers will do maintenance on the planter beds in the medians, as well as other annual maintenance activities in the area

The section of Algonquin Avenue, between Worthington Street and Cassells Street, will be closed tomorrow (Thursday) from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. as workers do maintenance on the planter beds in the medians, as well as other annual maintenance activities in the area.

During this time, southbound traffic to the downtown area on Algonquin Avenue will be diverted onto Worthington Street, and northbound traffic will be diverted onto Cassells Street.

Three years ago the City was breaking its own property standards bylaw that states, "The cutting of tall grass and weeds that exceeds 8” in height." That prompted a volunteer group to start pulling weeds and cleaning up the downtown.
