Poll: Overwhelmingly, parents worry about housing affordability

We asked parents if they worry that it will be harder for their children to afford a home than it was for them. The result: one of the most one-sided set of reader poll results in recent memory

Sod gets laid at newer builds in Stratford on Thursday.

The first thing to be said is that this is one of the most one-sided set of reader poll results in recent memory.

We asked: "For parents: Do you worry that it will be harder for your children to afford a home than it was for you?" The vast majority of 4,293 of you said yes.

There was a small gender difference, if you want to look for it:

Not much difference by educational category:

Not much difference by whether kids under 18 were living at home:

Only the smallest differences by political affiliation:

Some difference based on whether readers were worried about heating their homes this winter, which we use as a proxy for economic insecurity more generally. But even among the most economically secure group, more than three-quarters are worried:

But no difference at all based on who readers thought was most to blame for the housing affordability crisis:

Very little difference by age group:

And very little difference by region (This one was a bit surprising, since housing affordability varies quite a bit across Ontario):

The only conclusion to be drawn here is that this is an overwhelming issue for the vast majority of families in the province.
