Police investigating 2 deaths in Kirkland Lake

Police believe it's an isolated incident and there's no immediate threat to public safety

The deaths of a man and a woman in Kirkland Lake are being investigated by police. 

On July 30 around 4:30 p.m., Kirkland Lake OPP and the Timiskaming EMS went to a medical call at a Woods Street residence.

A 49-year-old man and 37-year-old woman were brought to the hospital by ambulance, where both were pronounced dead, said OPP in a news release. Post mortems are scheduled for tomorrow (Aug. 1). 

"Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to public safety," said police.

"The investigation is in its early stages and no further details can be released at this time. Further information will be provided when it becomes available."

The investigation includes the Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch, as well as the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
