OPP make arrest in 1970 abduction case

Kirkland Lake – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has made an arrest in the ongoing investigation into the October 20, 1970 disappearance of 12 year old Katherine May WILSON from Kirkland Lake, Ontario. She was last seen walking home on Harvey Kirkland Road on the outskirts of Kirkland Lake and had not been seen or heard from since.

As a result of the investigation, Barry Vincent MANION, age 60, of London, Ontario is charged with First Degree Murder and Abduction of a person under the age of fourteen years.

He is scheduled to appear in Haileybury Court on Friday, January 9, 2009.

The investigation by the OPP is continuing, under the direction of Detective Inspector Ken Leppert of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Orillia.

“I am proud of the dedication and the relentless pursuit of justice by the members of the OPP and appreciative of the assistance that the family of this young girl and the public played in this investigation,” said Commissioner Julian Fantino.
