North Bay, Sudbury officers to Patrol Sault During Funeral

Information regarding the funeral service for Constable Donald Doucet

Constable Donald (Don) Doucet will be resting at the Arthur Funeral Home located at 492 Wellington Street East, in Sault Ste. Marie.

Visitation will be on Wednesday May 17, 2006 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will take place on Thursday May 18, 2006 at 11:30 a.m at the Sault Ste. Marie Armoury located at 375 Pine Street, Sault Ste. Marie.

Constable Don Doucet will be given a full police funeral.

Officers from across the Province of Ontario as well as from the United States of America will be arriving in Sault Ste. Marie to pay their respects to their fallen comrade.

Inquiries from other police services across Canada have also been received.

A large number of officers are expected to attend the funeral.

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police, North Bay Police Service and the Greater Sudbury Police have stepped forward and have offered to be in Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday May 18th and provide police coverage so that all of the members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service can pay their respects to Constable Don Doucet and his family.

A large number of the officers that will be providing the coverage for the City Police are from the Sault Ste. Marie area and are familiar with the City.

A number of intersections in the area of the Armouries will be closed prior to the funeral service and following the service to allow for officers to march from the John Rhodes Arena to the Armouries.

A more detailed release regarding the road closures will be provided on Wednesday.

Motorist and citizens are asked to keep the road closures in mind.

Citizens who wish to attend along the parade route and show their support to the officers and to their fallen comrade are welcome.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will regularly provide updated information as the funeral approaches.
