North Bay Regional Science Fair (NBRSF) award winners are bringing home the Gold from the Canada-Wide Science Fair 2006, held in Saguenay, QC, May 13 through 21. All North Bay participants received significant awards.

Congratulations go to Zamir Merali of West Ferris S.S. who was awarded the Gold Medal, $1500 and a $2000 scholarship at Western University, with his Intermediate, Computer & Math project, “3D Scanning of Osseous Matter”;

Greg Kilroy and Dave Rodgers, of Widdifield S.S. who received a Bronze, $700, and $1000 scholarship at Western University, with their Intermediate Earth and Environment project, A Leechy Situation and;

Jennifer Witmer and Aspen Conlin also of Widdifield S.S. who were awarded the Canadian Stockholm Junior Water Prize with their Senior, Earth & Environmental Science project. “Dook.”

The Canada-Wide Science Fair is the largest extra-curricular youth activity related to science and technology in Canada, bringing together our country’s best young minds. Each year, some 450 top young scientists are chosen to compete from the best ranks of approximately 25,000 competitors at over one hundred regional science and technology fairs staged across the country.

These elite participants compete in seven divisions and three age categories for medals and other prizes worth over $360,000.

NBRSF Media Chair, and National Science Fair Zone Representative, Susan Terry commented, “North Bay students work very hard and have always excelled at the CWSF. We are very proud of them and wish them every success in their future endeavours.”
