With very little snow in December, the Sledding community in the North Bay area was concerned that lack of snow would impact the opening of area snowmobile trails.
Well, Mother Nature made up for the lack of snow in December in January.
The recent snowfall has helped the North Bay Snowmobile Club open the local trail system officially on Friday, January 16th.
North Bay Snowmobile Club President Shawn Flindall says that's right on schedule.
"The trails are in good shape, but it is still early season, so caution and safety are, as always, very important," reminded Flindall in a media release Friday.
"Thanks to our amazing volunteers ofr the long hours they have been putting in to get the trails open," added Flindall.
“It’s a bonus, we needed two things, we needed snow and we needed some real cold weather to freeze some things up and we got both so groomers are working all over the place right now and are getting things in shape,” said Flindall earlier in January.
Flindall adds there may be a few exceptions so he reminds sledders to check the online trail maps before heading out at http://www.nbsc.ca
