The Near North District School Board’s (NNDSB) library team is top shelf.

Every year, the Ontario Library Association honours an individual with the Ontario School Library Professional of the Year award to acknowledge one’s outstanding work in the library system. However, the entire library team at the NNDSB have been so impressive, all of them received the award.

The board’s Director of Education, Craig Myles, said, “This particular award is usually given to an individual, and it was given to the entire library team. It’s a huge accolade.”

The Ontario Library Association nominated the entire team for the award, and the decision was unanimous.

Jessica Feick is a supervisor in the board’s library services. She detailed, “The NNDSB library services also maintains a current and relevant virtual library with access to reputable resources to support students in their learning journey.”

Further, the school board emphasized in a release, “The team works hard to maintain culturally relevant collections in support of equity, diversity, and student well-being.”

The board’s library services team consists of four full-time secondary school librarians, two librarians who split their time between secondary and elementary schools, and seven itinerant elementary librarians.

Feick and two other team members are heading to Toronto on Jan. 30th to receive the award from the Ontario Library Association. The team will also be featured in the spring issue of Teaching Librarian, the Ontario Library Association’s magazine.

Feick noted, “The NNDSB is honoured and grateful for being selected as the Ontario School Library Professional of the Year and would like to thank the Ontario School Library Association for this wonderful award.”
