Canadians vacationing in Myrtle Beach woke up to five inches of snow this morning.

Myrtle Beach, a vacation destination for many North Bay residents looked more like northern Ontario today.

Five inches of snow has hit its celebrity-designed golf courses and beachfront boardwalk.

BayToday reader Don Coutts sent us the photo you see above.

"A friend of mine sent me the picture this morning of the trailer park that he and his wife are staying at in Myrtle Beach."

It's not the first time snow has hit the area, but it is rare. The city has seen at least five e inches of snow on six different occasions since 1940 says Yahoo News.

The city apparently does not own any snow plows so navigating the street has been a challenge despite some salt that has been spread.

The temperature in Myrtle Beach this afternoon was minus 2 and will drop to minus 8 tonight. A special weather statement has been issued warning of dangerous road conditions.
