No End To The Lock Out

The Near North District School Board announced in a media release today that the elementary schools will remain closed Tuesday May 23rd through to Friday May 26th.

In light of this development Board moving to keep the teachers locked out, Board Chair Alan Bottomley is calling on the Minister of Education to intervene and get kids back to class.

Bottomley states that students already had a number of interruptions in class time due to power outages and inclement weather, and coupled with the lost days due to the strike is causing serious concern as to how students will complete the year.

The Board also advises parents to continue to monitor media outlets and the Board website daily for further updates on the lock out.

The Near North District School Board does not see an early resolution of the current job action by its occasional teachers. Parents and care givers should make plans for child care for the week of Tuesday May 23rd through Friday May 26th. Board staff members are working hard to try to find a way to re-open classrooms as having students at school is extremely important. As soon as the issues are resolved or a satisfactory way is found to provide a safe learning environment for all students, schools will re-open.

Today, Board Chair Alan Bottomley will call upon the Minister of Education to intervene. Our students have already lost a significant number of days due to power outages and inclement weather. When this is added to the days lost to the strike there is a concern as to how our students might achieve the ambitious educational goals we share with the Province.

Parents and care givers are asked to consult the media and Board website on a daily basis for any further information about the status of our elementary schools.
