A handful of Nipissing University support staff were gathered outside the Governors House on the north end of campus.

Local 608 OPSEU was in negotiations with Nipissing University. While union officials on site would not specifically breakdown their specific needs, the key message from the union to the University is respect.

"The current campaign, 'Respect Nipissing U Support Staff,' calls for a fair and respectful deal that acknowledges their contributions and dedication to the Nipissing community," NUSU stated on its website.

'We have been taking some photos of various sites around the university showing all the places where we work and we are just here showing support for our bargaining team right now and we are looking for a fair contract," said Charron.

The two sides continued to meet as the school is set to begin next Tuesday.

Nipissing Universities Student Union encouraged students to go online to support the support staff and send a letter to Nipissing University management.

Nipissing University told CTV News that they would not comment as long as negotiations were ongoing.

"We would be pleased to comment when all parties have agreed to a settlement," the media statement continued.

However, late Friday afternoon the two sides came do a deal.

"Thank you everyone who took part in our email campaign, so far! In just a few days, over 380 messages were sent to the university’s President and Vice President," OPSEU stated on its site.

"This strong showing of solidarity and support certainly made a big difference in pushing the employer to make a fair offer."
