The Capitol Centre is thrilled to announce Bluesfest is back and here to help you shake those winter blues away.

A modified version of the festival is being planned for early January. Fans should circle the dates of January 9-11, 2025 on their calendars.

According to a media release, the Capitol Centre’s original annual Bluesfest event was held outdoors over the Labour Day long weekend but ended after almost a decade due to a significant gap in financial support.

“We had to pull the plug on our original plans because there was a large gap between the amount of funding that we had been able to secure, and the amount needed to move forward with the outdoor, almost week-long festival,” explains Dan Misturada, the director of programming at the Capitol Centre. “We still had funding approved from the BACH Program (Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage) through Canadian Heritage, and now we’ve received approval and support from them to re-imagine Bluesfest and push it from September to January.”

The winter event will include a kickoff party on January 9 and the “Winter Bluesfest Shuffle” on the 10th. On Saturday, the 11th, the WKP Kennedy Gallery will host a Bluesfest Themed Life Drawing session, and the Betty Speers Theatre will host the Mainstage Concert featuring headliner Monkey Junk.

Details for the Winter Bluesfest can be found here.
