Nipissing Serenity Hospice has launched a new monthly 50/50 lottery in support of its end-of-life palliative care programs and services.
Each month, there will be a minimum jackpot of $5,000, but Bernadette Lindsay, the Hospice’s Fund Development Coordinator, hopes that the take-home prize will be much higher.
“This is a great opportunity for us and for our supporters. It truly is win-win," she said in a news release. "The more tickets we sell, the higher the jackpot will be and the more funds we will have to do some great things in our Hospice.”
Tickets are on sale now and available online to all Ontario residents. The first draw will take place on April 30.
Gil Pharand, Executive Director of the Hospice hopes that the new lottery helps bridge a funding gap in its budget.
“In the grander scheme of things we are still a very new facility. We appreciate the community support that we have received to date. We are only 60 per cent funded and the 50/50 lottery can provide us with much-needed funds to assist us in offering excellence in residential hospice palliative care. We operate 24/7 and our services are free of charge.”
Pharand also says that COVID-19 has had an impact on the hospice’s revenue in the past year and the hospice needed to think outside the box to be strategic about fundraising.
